What My Morning Routine Currently Looks Like

I think we can all agree that 2020 has been a strange one in terms of routines. Being someone who likes routine, having a few months thrown out of the window this year was tough for me. But what was even more tough was having to get used to needing a routine again.

Now that things are returning to normal, a morning routine was a necessity again. I almost forgot what it was like to have to get up, get dressed and leave the house. I won’t lie, it’s taken me a far while to get back into the swing of things and get myself into a morning routine that works for me. So here’s my morning routine.

Wake up between 7 and 7:30

Everyone has their optimum wake up time. For you it might be 6, or it might be 8:30. For me it’s between the 7 and 7:30 mark (depending on how many times I press the snooze button ahahah). I find that waking up at this time gives me enough sleep to feel refreshed and not quite like I’ve been hit by a truck, but also gives me a good amount of time to have a proper morning routine.

We always need a cuppa

Whether I make them myself or I’m brought one in from Alex, I always have time for a quick cup of tea. Honestly I can’t function without my tea in the morning.

8am morning post

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I have a very set schedule with my morning post. 8am every morning, you can expect a new picture from PetiteElliee to hit the gram. I always like to sit and engage for about half an hour before I upload and half an hour after, I find that helps the best with engagement and also lets me catch up on what my favourite creators have been up to.

Morning skin

Since reading (or listening, thanks Audible) to Caroline Hiron’s book, I have really started to up my skincare game and take my beauty regime more seriously. I never used to cleanse in the morning (I know, I’m awful) so I now wake up, give my skin a good cleanse and moisturise.

Tackle the list (and breakfast)

I used to be the biggest breakfast person but recently I’ve found that just a yoghurt (and of course my tea) will do for me. I usually sit down at the table with my little pot and start writing out my to do list for the day.

Put on my face

I don’t take too long to do my makeup in the morning, so usually budget about half an hour for hair and makeup. I’ve found that I prefer a much lighter makeup these days and let my skin breathe – if you want to see a more in depth look into my everyday makeup, feel free to check out this video here.

Depending on what I have planned, I’ll either head out to shoot, sit down to film or jump on a call with a brand. I like to check in on my morning’s post throughout the day and will usually (around 9.30/10) get myself a coffee to give myself another jolt of energy. We always need that shot of caffeine to get us through the day ahaha!
