What is Black Friday/ Cyber Week?

What is Black Friday? Cyber Week? When is it? Do I need to be prepared? Is it online or just in store? What does it all mean.

So many questions that I’m going to answer for you today.

Now that we’ve hit November, Black Friday is just around the corner – the busiest shopping week in the calendar and one of my favourite times of year to prepare for, plan for the sales and get my hands on some amazing discount. But before the madness starts, I thought it would be super helpful to give you the low down – explain what it is, how you can make the most of it and help you to prepare for the sales yourself.

Originating in America, Black Friday is the day after Thanks Giving and is the biggest shopping day of the year where thousands of retailers, brands and companies slash their prices and offer insane discounts just ahead of the Christmas shopping. It’s now jumped the pond and we get to bask in the glorious sales of Black Friday, as well as enjoying the benefits of Cyber Week.

Cyber Week is the week leading up to Black Friday and basically boils down to a week of insane discounts, amazing sales and seriously good deals.

Whats the difference between Black Friday and Cyber Week?

Well, to put it bluntly, it’s so that the retailers can keep up with demands. Having everything on one day in the past has lead to major issues, such as websites crashing, stock being mis calculated and some very disappointed customers. So to ensure no one is disappointed, no one is rushed and the shops can cope, they’ve stretched out the sales for over a week!

The sales are both online and in store, but I personally prefer to shop all of my Black Friday shopping online (maybe even in my PJs with a glass of wine in hand hehehe) because I find it a lot less stressful, a lot easier to save pieces  and it means that I stick to my wish list and don’t waste money on things I didn’t need, but picked up in the moment.

If something goes on sale on the Monday of Cyber week, does that mean it’ll go down more by the Friday?

Probably not. The biggest misconception of Cyber Week is that Friday is the biggest day for sales, when in actual fact the whole week is full of amazing discounts. Most of the brands will offer different deals on different days (for example, last year Topshop offered 20% off coats on the Monday, 40% off bags on the Tuesday, 30% off jeans on the Wednesday and so on).
If you see something you have on your wishlist go on sale, I wouldn’t recommend waiting to see if the price drops lower because the chances are it won’t and it might even sell out before you get a chance to grab it!

How do I make the most of the sales?

By being prepared! That’s exactly why I’m here to help – by giving you all the best shopping tops and tricks before hand, helping you create your wish list. And then during the sales I’ll be giving you ALL the edits throughout the week, as well as my Black Friday hub  that I create every year – full of all of that day’s latest deals, discount codes and the links to all of the best items.

Should I do my Christmas shopping in the Black Friday sales?

Totally! That’s one of the reasons why it’s great to be prepared. Sometimes the sales can get a little overwhelming and if you don’t know what you’re looking for, you can get caught in a BF rabbit hole of scrolling. So start thinking now of the presents you want to give your loved ones, the items that would be amazing to get a discount on and start saving a wish list!

I hope that helps! Make sure you are subscribed to my email newsletters for more tips on Black Friday shopping, some early discount codes and what to buy. I’m here to make it as easy for you as possible – happy shopping!
