If there’s one thing that is no secret about me, it’s that I absolutely adore my open shelves. I think open shelves are such a gorgeous design feature and can really create a statement in any room. I’ve spent years perfecting the open shelf styling and do humbly believe that I have become the master in styling them – so today I thought I would show you my best tips and tricks for styling them.
Choose a Colour Palette
A really important thing to do when styling up your shelves is to base them around a colour palette. I personally love to stick to my neutrals but add in pops of colour – whether that’s pink, sage green or black depends on the season. I find that keeping your shelves within a certain colour palette is very aesthetically pleasing and creates a gorgeous visual.
Focus on height
Have fun with playing around with different heights – a tall bag next to a short one, layering books in size order or stacking boxes on top of each other. It creates a really gorgeous visual when you play around with height on open shelves.
Find a Niche for your shelves
Everyone is going to want shelves in different rooms and use them for different functions, so whether you’re styling up a dressing room unit with bags, a kitchen space with pots and pans or a living room with books. Choosing a niche and styling your shelves around that item is so timeless and classic.
