One thing I adore about a new season is how excited I get for my home – I always love for my home to be really reflective of the seasons and to bring some outside, in. I think it’s ever since I moved to the New Forest and moved back out to the country – being in the country really intensifies the seasons and makes me want to engulf myself in them.
Now that autumn has officially arrived it’s finally time to do the autumn home switch up – think of it as an autumn spring clean if you will. It’s a way to say goodbye to the summer months, goodbye to summer living and goodbye to the warmer seasons and celebrate the colder months. It’s the time to get excited about spending more time in doors, more time in your home and get all cosy in your space.
I always love to add some more greenery into my home – I feel like as I see the plants and flowers go over in the garden, I’m drawn to adding more greenery indoors in the kitchen. Think herbs, potted plants and ferns – not only are they great oxygenators, but they can be used in cooking, baking and within your autumnal meals over the next few months.
I also love to add layers to my home – just how I like to layer my outfits, I love to layer my interiors. Think cosy throws, comfy cushions and new rugs. Lots of textures, lots of softness and lots of cosiness.
Lastly, autumn for me is an amazing time to add in a bit of colour to your home – in the summer I love for it to be light, neutral and bright. But in the autumn, I just want to embrace the darker, cosier tones. I’ve been adding so much more red, burgundies and browns into my interiors and I’m just loving how it’s turning out.
Let me know if you like to do an autumn switchover and how you’re changing up your home for the new season.
