So it’s been a little while since the last home diaries blogpost – and for that I can only apologise. I’ve been a little slack in speaking about interiors recently. But being at home 24/7 and looking at nothing but the same walls everyday has really reignited my spark for loving all things interior and the home around me.
One thing you should know about me when it comes to interiors is that I bore really easily. Like, really easily. I think I’m the only person in the world to say that I love change, adore it, in fact. I welcome change in my home with open arms and drive Alex nuts with how many changes I make on a monthly, if not weekly, basis.
But change can be costly. No one can afford to move on from furniture pieces after pieces. And so I’ve found some methods that I like to use to spruce up our flat and update our interior for very little, to no money. So I thought that I would share my knowledge with you and have save you a few pennies.
Move Furniture Around
This is one of my favourite things to do when I start to feel a little tired of a set up. Sometimes you don’t need to replace the furniture, just move it about! Try different angles, different locations or even different rooms for pieces of furniture. I’ve moved many a bookcase from our living room to our bedroom in my time.
Have a shift around, see what works and you won’t believe the difference it can make!
Small Changes Have Big Consequences
I used to think that when things started looking tired that I needed to do a full switch up and buy whole new furniture. I’ve new realised what a difference the decor and small things make. Before you chuck away the whole sofa, try changing the cushions on it. Before you decide you hate your shelves, buy some new ornaments to place on it. Sometimes changes to the smallest items make the biggest difference in a room.
A Bit Of DIY
I love DIY – I’m not the best of it myself and do awe at the amazing bloggers and vloggers who can make an old TV stand into an ornate side unit. But just small DIY’s can really make a difference to a space. Maybe repurposing a bowl into a trinket tray… or painting the legs of your chairs. There are so many small DIY’s you can make to a room to really give it a refresh.
Foliage Is All Around
I adore foliage. Pampas grass and dried leaves are some of my favourite things to add to a room to give it a touch of softness. But they can be pricey… I’ve seen some Etsy sellers with Pampas grass prices in the triple digits. Not for me.
I would totally recommend foraging for your own foliage! Just make sure you check it for bugs before you bring it into the house… that’s a mistake I’ll never make again.
