How I Hygge In Lockdown

I think we can all agree that lockdown 3.0 has been a tough one. Self care has often been thrown out the window and hygge is something that we haven’t thought about in MONTHS. But it’s something that I’ve really been putting more effort into actively practising to help myself during these hard times.

Minimalism

Obviously minimalism is a large part of hygge and something that I do actively think about when it comes to my space. I am by no means a minimalist. I have a lot of crap and like having all my things around me. But having a clear out of things that you might not need anymore, not want and have no desire for is so therapeutic. It means that you can just clear out so much space and give yourself some room to breathe.

Boundaries

Something that is so important is to set yourself boundaries. During the working day I am in the head space of work and I’m in the flow. But in the evening time, the laptop goes away, the candles are burning and the TV is on. I set myself so many strict boundaries to ensure that work stays with work and my own time is my own.

Self Care

Nothing is more important than self care in lockdown and I can’t tell you how much I have prioritised it over the last few weeks. I run myself a bath a few times a week, I’ll apply a facemask and the Bridgerton sound track serenades me. Setting yourself time to practise self care is vital – wether that’s a bath, going for a run, making yourself a hearty dinner or binging the entirety of a Netflix show. It’s your time to care for yourself.
