If you’re a bit of an OG reader or you’ve been around these parts for a little while, you’ll have known about my travel anxieties. I’ve touched on them in a few posts – I’ve spoken about how they’ve held me back in the past and the tips and tricks I’m using to try and overcome them.
Spoiler alert – I think I’ve conquered them…
Okay, okay, that’s not to say that I am superwomen, jetting off to a new country to every week and breezing through the airport without a care in the world. But for the most part, I’be done a pretty good job at overcoming my fears. And you may have noticed… seeing as though I’ve been doing quite a fair bit of travelling (go me!)
At the start of 2019, I made a goal to visit 6 new countries and overcome my anxieties when it comes to travelling… long story short, I travelled to 7 counties in the space of 4 months and couldn’t have been more proud of myself for it.
As much as I loved it, 7 countries in 4 months was intense, so at the starts of 2020 I set a goal to travel once a month. And so far, I seem to be accomplishing that goal with quite ease – January was Paris and Norway, February was Tenerife and Lanzarote… and March, April and May seem to be lining up really nicely.
Whenever I speak to people about my travelling, the first thing they always say is ‘oh you had quite a fear of that before didn’t you’ – so I think my travel anxiety posts reached quite a few of you. And hey, if they help anyone in any way then that’s exactly what I set out to do.
If you do want to read my tips about overcoming fears and helping yourself when travelling then head to this post, but the purpose of today’s post is to say hey, I did it. I overcame the struggle and although I still have some difficulties in airports (I have cried to airport staff too many times than I care to admit), it’s all worth it to experience the new experiences, grab the exciting opportunities and travel the world.
If I can do it, you can too. Keep going.
